Building a happy, clean and godly home is paramount in any Christian home. It is a place where peace, love, and trust flourish, and where children are nurtured and guided in the ways of the Lord.

As Christian women, we play a significant role in building our homes. Our purpose as wives and mothers is to be a helper, nurturer, a source of wisdom, a reflection of God’s love within our families among many other things.

In this article, we will explore the biblical foundations of Christian homemaking and how it contributes to the overall well-being of those around us.

We will delve into the importance of unconditional love, submission, training, and wise counsel. By embodying these principles, we can create a home that reflects God’s love and fosters spiritual growth for our families.

The Purpose of Christian Homemaking

To understand the role of women in building a happy home, we must first recognize the purpose for which we were created. In the book of Genesis, Eve is described as a helper suitable for Adam. This signifies that women were designed to support and complement their husbands in the context of marriage and family life.

As Christian homemakers, we have the privilege and responsibility to build our homes based on biblical principles. Our goal is to create an environment where love, respect, and godly values thrive. By embracing our role as helpers, we can contribute to the overall well-being and happiness of our families.

Being a homemaker, doesn’t mean that women can never work outside of the home, but what I am emphasizing it that our primary ministry is our home/household & family.

Wisdom in Love: Unconditional Love and Availability

One of the foundations of Christian homemaking is love. As women, we are called to love our husbands and children unconditionally, just as God loves us. This love should not be based on what we receive from them or the circumstances we find ourselves in. Instead, it should be selfless and sacrificial.

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

Titus 2:3-5 NIV

In building a happy home, we must make ourselves available to our husbands and children. This means being attentive to their needs and desires. It also means being present and actively engaged in their lives. By showing love and being available, we create an atmosphere of security and warmth within our homes.

Wisdom in Submission: Humility and Trust

Submission is another important aspect of Christian homemaking. While this concept may be misunderstood in today’s society, it is rooted in biblical teachings.

The Bible instructs wives to submit to their husbands as to the Lord (Ephesians 5:21-33). This does not mean that women are inferior or powerless. Instead, it is a call to willingly place ourselves under the leadership and protection of our husbands.

By embracing submission, we demonstrate humility and trust. We recognize that our husbands have been given the role of leadership within the family (from God). Submission does not imply blind obedience or the absence of our own thoughts and opinions. Instead, it is a partnership built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to God’s design for marriage.

Wisdom in Training: Teaching God’s Laws and Values

As Christian homemakers, we have the responsibility to train and teach our children in the ways of the Lord. This includes imparting biblical knowledge, teaching moral values, and modeling godly behavior. We are called to be diligent in instructing our children, both through formal teaching and everyday interactions.

The Bible instructs us to teach our children diligently and our role as teachers and guides extends beyond the walls of the home. We should seize every opportunity to instill in our children a love for God and a desire to follow His ways.

Wisdom in Being a Trusted Helper and Wise Counselor

In addition to being a wife and mother, we are called to be trusted helpers and wise counselors to our husbands. We should strive to be their confidants, offering support, encouragement, and sound advice. Our role is to stand by their side, providing insight and guidance when needed.

To fulfill this role, we must cultivate trust and open communication within our marriages. We should be willing to listen attentively, offer wise counsel, and pray for our husbands. By being a trusted helper and wise counselor, we contribute to the strength and unity of our marriages.

Wisdom in Speech: Words of Encouragement and Kindness

The power of our words should not be underestimated. As Christian homemakers, we should use our words to build up our husbands, children, and families. We should strive to be women of grace, speaking words of encouragement, affirmation, and kindness.

Proverbs reminds us that a wise woman opens her mouth with wisdom and on her tongue is the law of kindness. Our words have the power to bring life or death, so we must choose them wisely. By speaking words of love, affirmation, and encouragement, we create an atmosphere of positivity and growth within our homes.

Conclusion

Christian homemaking is a noble and important calling. May God give us all that we need to fulfill our mission, because it is certainly not an easy journey! Just know Sis, that your labor is NOT in vain!

This ministry requires wisdom, love, submission, and dedication. By embracing our roles as helpers, teachers, and counselors, we can build happy and godly homes that reflect the love and grace of God.

Let us strive to love unconditionally, be available to our husbands and children, submit to our husbands with humility and trust, train our children in God’s ways, be trusted helpers and wise counselors, and speak words of encouragement and kindness. In doing so, we will create homes that are filled with love, joy, and the presence of God.

With love, Grace
